Finding Your Sacramental Records
Every person has the right to be furnished with an authenticated certificate of their own sacramental record(s). There are no centralized records of any kind maintained by the Archdiocese of Detroit that would permit searching for sacramental information by a person's name alone.
I know the name of the parish I received my sacrament
The parish is open Contact the parish to request a certificate The parish is responsible for issuing sacramental certificates upon request when the parish where the sacrament was celebrated is open. If a parish merged, the records are held by the merged/new parish.
The parish is closed The Archives office is considered the central repository for the records of closed churches. Submit a certificate request form and the information will be researched. A new certificate with the raised Archdiocesan seal and current date will be issued, and mailed out to you. This usually takes seven to ten business days after we receive the request.
Not sure?
I do not remember where I received my sacrament
Without the specific church name, our Archives office can provide research assistance in finding your records; however many times the search is unsuccessful. Contact our Archives office. To pinpoint the unknown church of baptism, any of the following information may help our Archivist:
- The home address of the person at the time of baptism
- The names of the nearest major cross streets where the person lived at the time of baptism.
- Parish where other sacraments such as First Communion, Confirmation or Marriage were received.
